Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre had a significant effect on the literary world. It is one of the first books ever that has a heroine; a woman who is equal, even stronger than the male characters. This week the Novel Weekly is going to have a special report on Jane Eyre.

It is in the top 10 of the BBC’s Big Read list, and the gothic love story is still popular today. It is not just about love; there are ghosts, spooky houses, and madness all in this novel. So if you do not appreciate love, you could still read this book. Many readers say that this novel is the best haunted book ever!

Jane Eyre is a book that challenges gender in justice in Bronte’s time. Men and women are equal in ability; women can do anything that men can do. Jane Eyre at the end of this story manages to be a superior woman, who surpasses Mr. Rochester.

The characters are interesting too. Many people seem to be doing nice things on the surface, but deep down they are not. Like Mr. Brocklehurst, St. John Rivers, Mr. Rochester… There are also good characters who believe in god, like Jane’s friend, Helen Burns.

So that’s it for this week. Next week we are going to talk about Fahernheit 451.

Editorial note:

Well done. Another good review. You’ve covered the basics very well, and given the reader just enough information to make the curious, without revealing too much. That is the secret of a good book review.
